I was briefly in Rochester a few weeks ago and had the chance to try not one, but TWO different plates. I’m going to be straight up, I enjoyed the holy hell out of this plate. It was everything you’d want it to be. I don’t remember how much this was, It wasn’t cheap, but also wasn’t unreasonably expensive. I got the two cheeseburger plate, as is tradition. Enough bullshit, let’s talk plates:

HEALTH INSPECTION NOTES:

They had an inspection on 4/27/22 that found 2 non-critical violations and one critical violation. The critical violation was related to:

  • Cooked or prepared foods are subject to cross-contamination from raw foods.

This, as we all know, means that 1 point will be deducted from their “composition” score.

Meat (Cheeseburgers): 5

The burgers here were outstanding. I don’t say that very often, but these were quite good. They were tender and juicy and didn’t taste flash frozen or generic.

Meat Sauce: 5

The meat sauce here has a good flavor to it, it has a nice kick as well. It pairs incredibly well with the rest of the plate.

Potato Side (Home fries): 5

I happen to really love this fry shape. It’s like a thick curly fry, or wedge. I’m not sure what to call it but it was delicious. That said, I should mention that I think this particular shape is a bit overpowering on a plate. The fries are just too big in comparison with everything else. So although you get a tasty forkful of fry, that’s about all you’re getting.

Mac Salad: 3

I felt the mac salad here was the one thing lacking on this plate. It just didn’t wow or impress me. It didn’t have much flavor and although I appreciate the shape choice, it just wasn’t doing enough.

Bread: N/A

No bread :(. I miss the days when bread was a standard. Sigh.

Portion Control/Composition: 4*

As I mentioned earlier, one point was deducted due to sanitary reasons. With that out of the way, they give you a ton of food. I had a tough time finishing it. Mama didn’t raises no quitter, so I did finish it, but I was hurting a bit afterward. I mentioned it in the fry section but it bears repeating, this fry shape may not be the best choice for a plate. It’s just too much potato.

Overall Score: 4.4

Even with the point deduction from the composition score, this is one of the best plates that Rochester has to offer. Easily a top ten plate for me. Especially considering how many places have closed recently :(.

  1. Those potato curls look amazing. Has that A&G meats fresh star shaped patty on the burger. I wonder if they’re a higher quality meat blend if they’re tastier than usual. I’ll investigate…
