Mark’s Texas Hots – Review II
The last time I had Mark’s was July 30, 2017. I’ve been so busy trying different plates that I haven’t had the chance to get back to it. It’s a shame, because I do love their plate. It was one of the first plates I’d ever had, so it’ll always have a special place in my heart. For $11.00 you can get the “Mark’s Sloppy Plate”. Let’s break it down:
HEALTH INSPECTION NOTES:
Based on a reinspection from June 10, 2019, they have no critical violations. I would feel comfortable eating here again.
Meat (Cheeseburgers): 3
The burgers here are good, but nothing special. They were a bit too well done for my personal preference as well.
Meat Sauce: 5
A classic meat sauce that has a nice kick to it. Can’t really go wrong with the meat hot here.
Potato Side (Home fries): 4
I like the cut of these; I’m a fan of crinkle cut. That said they clearly come from a frozen bag and are a bit bland.
Mac Salad: 5
This is one of my favorite mac salads. It’s close to perfect as far as I’m concerned. I’m not sure if they make it in house, but I love it. I’d assume they do make it in house because I haven’t tasted anything similar anywhere else.
Bread: 4
The bread was decent, nothing special. It didn’t taste fresh per say, but it also wasn’t stale; if that makes sense.
Portion Control/Composition: 4
One complaint I had was that there wasn’t a good balance here. Considering how great their meat sauce is, I’d like to see more of it in the future. I’ll also add that the onions aren’t diced thoroughly.
Overall Score: 4.17
You really can’t go wrong with this plate; it’s a classic. When you consider that you can get this any time of day or night, you really learn to appreciate Mark’s. It may not be the “best” plate, but it’s my favorite.
