Fairport Hots – Review

Fairport Hots – Review

I always look forward to trying out new places (to me) to get garbage plates. It’s so thrilling, knowing that you’re going to sit down and indulge in pure and unadulterated gluttony. The first thing I noticed at Fairport Hot’s was the signage; it’s awesome. They have photos of their food; sort of like those Chinese restaurants. It puts you in the mood for a plate seeing them advertised in large posters. I ordered my standard double cheeseburger plate. They have some other plate options that I’d love to check out in the future. The plate at Fairport Hot’s will cost you $9.71. The service is good and they serve you quickly. I would venture to say that this plate may be one of the best “non-deluxe” plate experiences. Let’s break it down:

HEALTH INSPECTION NOTES:

They had one critical violation. I’m inclined to believe that this is something that they’ve addressed. Mainly:

Precooked, refrigerated potentially hazardous food is not reheated to 165oF or above within two hours.

I don’t know much about this violation. It seems like (based on their previous history) they were caught on a bad day. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on though.

Meat (Cheese burgers): 3

The burgers were a bit overcooked and bland. They were the typical hockey puck like burgers that you’ve come to expect at these places.

Meat Sauce: 5

Despite being a bit saltier than my general preference I felt that the meat sauce was quite good. It had a nice heat that rather sneaks up on you as you’re enjoying your food. Additionally, it doesn’t distract from the plate and compliments the other ingredients.

Potato Side (Home Fries): 4

Somehow the home fries were a bit better than usual. they cooked the home fries perfectly and the home fries were soft and not too crispy. My general preference is towards having softer home fries. If you prefer crispier fries than this may detract from your plate experience.

Mac Salad: 5

The mac salad here stood out to me. The noodles were cooked well and they went heavy on the mayo. It didn’t have that chalky taste that I tend to associate with too much vinegar/mustard. Quite a pleasant experience.

Bread: 2

A real disappointment. They gave me stale bland boring bread. This is one of the areas that is easy to do correctly.

Portion Control/Composition: 5

I mentioned this already but the flavor profile of the plate itself was great. They give you a ton of food and I was completely satiated after indulging. This is in the running for the best of the mediocre plate experience.

Overall Score: 4.0
