Old Stone Tavern – Review

I had the chance to check out the recently opened “Old Stone Tavern” in the South Wedge. The Old Stone Tavern opened up in the old Orbs location and it’s been open about a year now. I’m so out of touch I didn’t even realize Orbs closed. For 16.20 you can get the “dog and burger plate”. They give you a ton of food, and I quite enjoyed it. It was one of the few times I wasn’t able to finish my plate. Good news though, it’s just as good the next day!

HEALTH INSPECTION NOTES:

There were no issues during the re-inspection that took place 7/30/18.

“Meat” (Cheeseburger/Dog): 3

The dog was good, it was well seasoned and didn’t taste like a generic hotdog. The burger was a rather mediocre affair; it wasn’t anything special. It was rather dry and rubbery in all honesty.

Meat Sauce: 5

The meat sauce was a bit different than the standard meat sauce that you get with your plate. I couldn’t figure out what seasoning they used but it sort of tasted like allspice or something similar. The sauce had a nice kick to it and was quite good.

Potato Side (Tater Tots!): 4

As we all know, tots are a superior potato side. This is irrefutable and isn’t up for debate. That said these tots were good, but not excellent.

Mac Salad: 5

I loved the mac salad here, I’m quite fond of the noodle shape that they chose as well.

Bread: N/A

Portion Control/Composition: 5

They give you a ton of food with your order. It was one of the few times I can remember where I couldn’t finish the plate. Tater tots make everything better and add to the plate experience. The dog was quite nice and was reminiscent of the kind you might get at Dogtown. This isn’t a generic tasting plate by any stretch of the imagination.
