Spencerport Hots – Review

With all the nice weather we’ve been having lately, I felt inspired to venture out a bit farther than I normally do. I had a few people in my DM’s telling me to check out Spencerport Hots. For $10.79, you can get their version called the “Cheeseburger Plate”.

As COVID-19 cases spike all over the country, I was a bit shocked to see the uninviting signs they having “greeting” the customers at the entrance. I fully realize and appreciate the economic devastation that has occurred to businesses and restaurants all across the country. We’re all dealing with this together, and it sucks for all of us in unique and special ways. That said, to put up these defiant signs that encourage people to stay home if they aren’t comfortable is not helpful. The people inside couldn’t have been nicer; which was in stark contrast to the signs they had up at the entrance. In lieu of spending the entirety of this post writing about poor judgement on the part of restaurant owners; I’ll stop here and say, wear a mask, and follow the fucking guidelines.

HEALTH INSPECTION NOTES:

Their last inspection is like one I haven’t ever seen before. To be clear, there was nothing in it that would concern me about how the food is being prepared or how the food is handled. That said, there’s this line, from June 25, 2020, which I found interesting:

Re-Inspection: Inspector spoke with owner, Joe Nucci and reviewed the wearing of mask by all employees while at work. Customers must wear a mask prior to being seated as well as when leaving the establishment. Owner agreed to review this with all cook and wait staff.”

I suppose that explains the signage at the entrance. Take that for what you will.

Meat (Cheeseburgers): 4

The burgers here were good; I liked the cheese that they use. It’s nothing earth shattering, but overall enjoyable.

Meat Sauce: 4

I felt the meat sauce here was pretty good. It had a nice kick to it, which I appreciate.

Potato Side (Home fries): 3

The home fries were bland and uninteresting. They weren’t seasoned at all and didn’t seem to be cooked long enough, they were a bit mushy.

Mac Salad: 4

The mac salad here was acceptable, nothing special, but also not bad. On par with other generic mac salads I’ve had around town.

Bread: N/A

I did not receive bread with my order.

Portion Control/Composition: 5

They give you a ton of food which is nice, and everything seemed to be properly balanced.

Overall Score: 4

The plate here is a solid option if you’re on the west side. I prefer it to Jimmy Z’s, but it’s not earth shattering or mind altering. It’s a standard plate that you can get just about anywhere decent.
