American Cheeseburger – Review
After a few failed attempts, I finally had the chance to check out American Cheeseburger in Rochester, NY. American Cheeseburger is located on East Ave in what I consider to be the best location of all time (for a hots place). Their location is perfect for a quick bite after a night of drinking at all the East Ave. bars I hate. For $13.99 you can get the “American Dream Plate”. I enjoyed it, let’s break it down:
HEALTH INSPECTION NOTES:
From an inspection back in February (of 2020) there were 3 non-critical violations. I’d feel safe and comfortable eating here again.
Meat (Cheeseburgers): 3
The cheeseburgers here are decent, nothing special. The cheese they use has a plastic consistency; sort of like Kraft singles.
Meat Sauce: 4
The meat sauce here was interesting, no heat to it though unfortunately.
Potato Side (French fries): 5
The home fries here were great. I’m not sure what seasoning they used, but it tasted awesome. This was a real bright spot of the plate in general for me. You can literally see the seasoning on the home fries.
Mac Salad: 4
I felt the mac salad was good. It’s a bit bland frankly, but it didn’t detract from the plate experience. The mac salad was a bit of a slog at points.
Bread: n/a
I did not receive bread with my order.
Portion Control/Composition: 5
They give you a ton of food for your money and the plate has great synergy. It was a bit greasy at times, but that was manageable. I’ll also say that there was a bit too much mac salad, but it wasn’t overwhelming because they give you a lot of meat sauce to accompany.
Overall Score: 4.2
This was a surprise for me, I wasn’t sure what to expect but American Cheeseburger exceeded my expectations. If you’ve never been, it’s worth checking out, it’s a welcome addition to East Ave.
